Sunday (17/5/2026) Feline Club of India : -
The Feline Club of India hosted the massive Cat Expo India at the CIDCO Exhibition & Convention centre.Entrance fee ticket was Rs 199 and a sell out.My inspirational baby of starting a cat Show / Club with like minded cat parents way back in 2012 became " Indian Cat Federation" club that after a few years sadly closed shop with President Mr Shree Nair managing his pet shows in U.A.E. Now the establishment of " FCI " with Mr Saquib.S. Pathan as its founder and President has left me dazed seeing the grand scale of presentation of this cat show, unbelievable in India let alone Mumbai where " Dog Shows" are popular. The scale and magnitude of various cat products on display at various stalls as well as the large variety of different breeds of cats participating seemed a fantasy turning into reality.Remember the First cat show in India was held in Bangalore in 2013 and in just over a decade the " Feline Club of India" has put cat shows in India on par with First World Country's .The " Feline Club of India " has so far hosted 125Cat shows across 110 city's in India.Unbelievable stupendous feat of organization as well as monetary sponsorship logistics by " FelineclubofIndia( F.C.I).The pet Industry is a multi crore rupees business and today's cat show proved the statistics. Happy to see my idea germinate into reality during my lifetime. There were a total of 8 Rings on the main elevated central stage  but only 7 rings  were in use  with 7 different judges for judging various breeds of cats. 5 of the judges were flown into India from Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.F.C.I President Mr Saquib Pathan recognized me through our  group " Mumbai Cat Club " on FB and along with Veterinarian  Dr Dhananjay Pandit he took a selfie of us.Wishing " Feline Club of India "
all the best for future cat shows.A younger   Mr Saquib.Pathan had participated in the "Indian Cat Federation" show  held on Sunday 11 October 2015  at Bombay Exhibition center(NESCO) in Goregaon with his prize winning cat "Barkat Pathan" being awarded "Champion Title".My Persian cat "Matahari" also participated in her first as also last cat show as a "Also Ran" contestant  as she didn't possess the attributes of a "Cat Beauty Queen". The judge Mr Anthony Aldum from South Africa informed  me that she had bad teeth akin to her human companion and worse, a slightly upper-shot jawline.Truth is stranger than fiction.
CIDCO EXHIBITION AND CONVENTION CENTER :- Main stage for the  8 different exhibition rings for different breeds of cats. There were a total of 8 rings but only 7 rings were in use .The closest ring in the photo is "Ring N0 1" and the last on the extreme end is " Ring N0 8".A grand total of approximately over 1000 cats belonging to 16 different breeds  participated in this show.

Unlike "Indian Cat Federation" that closed down after a few Inter city cat  shows across India  , the scale of cat exhibitions and crowd appreciation proves the fact that " Feline Club of India(FCI)"  is here to stay  akin to "I.P.L Cricket" and definitely the brand name for cat shows in India.I am not a paid professional press reporter but  just a hobby philanthropist writer  and cat aficionado , so excuse me if I have omitted some  aspects of the finer details of  the cat shows.
House full mega hit crowd of Cat parents with their pampered pets in exhibit cages  while visitors stroll around the large indoor A/C convention center viewing a variety of different pedigree cat breeds as well as the common Indi cat.The 5,000-square metre Cidco exhibition arena had over 60 stalls showcasing pet food, grooming products, healthcare solutions, toys, accessories and other feline-related products.

Pet parents Mr Sumit and  Mrs Ashwini  with their non-human Indie cat child Mania" curious about other cats while sitting on Mr Sumit's shoulder.

"CAT CARRY BAG" fashion for Men .
Mr Jennish with cat "Scooby" on his Cat Carrier Backpack accompanied by his friend Mr Vishal with "Cookie" on his backpack. You never ever get to see such a fashion show at any "Men's Fashion Show". Wonder what's the impression of the lady's watching these two men do the "Cat Walk" at the Cidco Exhibition and convention center. These 2 cats are the "Persian Original Long Hair breed".The " Persian Original Long Hair " breed became a overnight highly prized  pet cat  sensation  after being first portrayed as the signature pet of the faceless villain leader " SPECTRE( Ernst Stavro Blofeld)"  in the 1963 James Bond Franchisee film " From Russia with Love".Most importantly these 2 cats have a absolute calm temperament in this crowded , packed auditorium.Brought back nostalgic memories of my late pets "Matahari" and "Matata",a identical copy of these two cats, both, in colour and in breed. Its a small World of "Cats".Numbering a total of 470 , the "Persian Cat Breed" formed the largest number of cats at this F.C.I show as also at the previous shows i visited.

"British Short Hair" breed in its cage owned by professional cat breeder  Mr Valiullah Mehmoodi(Vali) C.E.O [PetAMI Life] who also had a  "Scottish Fold" cat in the next cage.Cost of a British Short Haired breed ranges from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,30,000 depending on pedigree and Breeders reputation.Buying a expensive pedigree cat is easy but its lifelong maintenance and care costs a fortune.Mr Valiullah refused to disclose the price of his cats at the show giving me his visiting card .Akin to "Dog Shows" it is at recognized "Cat Shows" across the Globe that professional breeders get to meet buyers as well as improve the stock value of their breed of cats by winning prizes.Sadly there is also a ruthless "Backyard Breeding" Industry where cats are bred akin to a conveyor belt system thus creating the tragic case of over supply in comparison to demand. This is most common in the "Persian Breed", both long hair and flat face(Punch Face) with these poorly bred cats sold at dirt cheap prices akin to a throwaway sales  and later developing inherited diseases .Many Persian cats are abandoned on streets as they were purchased cheap and hence a disposable commodity since their upkeep is expensive once they develop inherited diseases common with the breed.

"Tailung" a Main Coon Breed imported from U.S.A and owned by Miss Aire sitting aristocratically in its box cage. This cat being a direct import from U.S.A would cost approximately Rs 1,20,000 to Rs 4,00,000.If bred in India or mix breed  the price could range from Rs 45,000 to Rs 1,00,000.Akin to the "Great Dane" of the Dog World the "Maine Coon" is officially recognized as the largest non-hybrid cat breed.

Pet parent Ms Bianchi walking her female Siberian breed cat " Bambi" on a leash. It is difficult to train a cat to walk like a dog on a leash and a rare sight in any locality in Mumbai.Price range is  approx Rs 30,000 for unregistered kittens and Rs 1,20,000 for show quality kittens.

Pet Parent Mr Anirudha carrying his cat "Baku" on a "Front Carrier Bag". Back and Front carrier bags are also a fashion statement by pet parents.
